On demand payroll advice: Whether it is for a specific situation (a curly final pay)
or for chronic compliance uncertainties (those ADP rates have never looked right!).
On-site (or remote) Employment Hero training: As a former product owner at Employment
Hero, I know what best practice looks like on this platform. I introduced the concept of employee set up to
expose payroll calculations outcomes for each employment type and took ownership of various features such
as irregular employment and ADP days paid.
Audit: I am a True Blue audit advocate. Compliant payroll outcomes start with correct
business and employee set up. If your payroll hits those chronic headaches with every pay run, it’s time to
hit the audit button. Time for a forensic deep dive: Extract data, look at pay, leave components and
employee set up.
Payroll processing: A good payroll practitioner never forgets what the coalface feels
like. And the coalface is probably the best part of payroll. It’s about people. People’s back pocket (get
their pay right on time every time), people’s time with their family or to look after themselves (correct
leave entitlements). A good payroll practitioner keeps the door wide open for employees and managers to
answer queries and find solutions. We can explain a tax calculation instead of sending the employee to the
Inland Revenue PAYE calculator. We can explain Mondayised public holiday remuneration instead of sending a
supervisor to the Employment NZ website.
Employment Leave Act readiness: The outcome of the upcoming general election could
mean a major payroll overhaul or nothing at all. Labour and the Greens made it clear that they are not
supporting the new Act. But if the current coalition remains, businesses will need to get out of the
starting blocks without delays. We are already three months into a 24-month deadline. If we are
transitioning to the ELA, businesses will have to move fast with a comprehensive vision of what their
payroll will look like from employment agreements to payroll platform configuration. True Blue payroll’s
view is that while the ELA addresses some of the current complexities under the Holidays Act 2003, it has
created many more in the process, which is truly unfortunate. True Blue payroll looks at your business
specific payroll realities and which aspects will need to be remodelled to fit within the ELA.
